Based on Tuesday night’s results, the Men’s Division finals of the Kenosha News Match Game Bowling Tournament should offer plenty of suspense.
Only nine points separate the leader from third place, with defending champion Kyle Zagar topping the field of 16 bowlers with 602 on the first night of finals Tuesday at Guttormsen Recreation Center. Scott Safransky and Ryan Zagar are right behind the leader with 598 and 593 points, respectively.
Bowlers are awarded 30 points for each match victory and either gain or lose a point for each pin over or under 200.
Powered by five games of 250 or higher, Kyle Zagar went 6-2 and finished with a pinfall of 2,022 and 602 points. Safransky topped Kyle Zagar’s total with a 2,048, but trails in the overall standings with 598 points after winning five of eight matches. Ryan Zagar (593 points) bowled a 297 in Game 2 en route to a 5-3 record and a 2,043.
Three-time Men’s Division champion Ben Betchkal (531 points) compiled a 5-2-1 record with a 1,966 for fourth place. A perfect game highlighted Joe Meier’s fifth-place performance. Meier (493) tallied a 1,943 to win five of his eight matches.
Jason Griffin (486 points), Lennie Boresch (463), Jason Weber (415), Jacob Boresch (408) and Zak Eidsor (389) rounded out the top 10 bowlers heading into Friday’s final night of Men’s Division action.
